Delsea School District

Delsea Regional School District manages three school districts in southwest New Jersey, which includes nine buildings and 1,300 total computers. The district is headquartered in Franklinville, New Jersey.

The Problem

With an infrastructure of 1,300 total endpoints between nine buildings, the administrators for Delsea's IT services had to do a lot of traveling and a lot of extra work to keep all the systems up to date. Some computers had remote management capabilities, but were dependant on whether or not remote wake was enabled on them at the time. Delsea needed a cost effective solution to provide them added control and flexibility, as well cut down on mileage.

The Solution

With the 2008-2009 school year coming to an end Delsea was facing a major client hardware refresh, so they began looking for a new solution. They came across Altiris Client Management Suite, which they also found was pre-loaded onto the appliance-based solution from Symantec Platinum Partner NetX. In five days the entire IT staff was trained in the NetX Appliance, and Altiris agents had been pushed out to 750 endpoints.

The Results

With a new centralized data center Delsea was able to install and configure 192 Dell clients in just three weeks, without leaving their desk. The district's patch compliance is at 99%, a stark contrast from the 75% or less they had before. The Appliance also kept them from needing to hire and extra desktop support technician, which will save the organization enough money to pay back the solution in under a year.
